Welcome to Cubes for the Cure!

Cubes for the Cure is a collection of firefighters working to raise cancer awareness and funding for cancer research in the name of our fallen brother, Bob Banfield. Bob was a lifelong runner who inspired many of his coworkers to enjoy fitness. Bob passed away from Neuroendocrine cancer on April 25, 2012.  In his honor, we have decided to tackle the Savannah Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on November 03, 2012. Part of the challenge will include an attempt from one of our own to set a new world record for the most Rubik's cubes solved while completing a marathon. The current record of 100 cubes was performed in April of 2011 at the Virgin London marathon.

Currently the team is looking for teammates to compete in the marathon and raise donations for cancer research. All donations raised will be contributed the Keyserling Cancer Center for cancer research. For more information, and to stay current, check us out on Twitter or Facebook.

WHAT'S HAPPENING: Navy Fire & Emergency Services Newsletter, June 2012

It is with great sadness that the Parris Island Fire Rescue announces the passing of Firefighter Robert Banfield on April 25, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Robert entered the federal service in 1989 working at NAS Weymouth, MA, NS Mayport, FL, NS Newport, RI, and MCRD Parris Island. Robert will always be remembered for his drive, attention to detail and dedication to duty. He never gave up hope that he would be cured as he ran a biathlon in March of this year and worked as a firefighter until his passing.

Robert made a great impact on our department and will be deeply missed. From your Brothers and Sisters of the Parris Island Fire Department you have left a void with your passing but know you left it better than you found it.

Rest in Peace Bob.
